What is this all about?

The homepage movie is intended to take a snapshot of the web as it looks in 2008. It consists of the images of all registered pages, played in an endless loop. Everybody can register his homepage, his blog or company website for a minimal amount of money, and make his page part of a fabulous project this way.

The movie is another step in the evolution of incredibly fascinating web money/marketing projects. It is motivated by the idea that I am millionaire as soon as one million people are willing to pay me one euro, and even richer if they are willing to pay me more. And I am sure they are. That is why the range of available products goes from 1 up to 100 euros.

Still, the project shall not only make me rich, but also people willing to put efforts into marketing. That is why there is a great affiliate program which can be joined even without registration. Only a valid E-Mail address is required to become my partner on the homepage movie.

Why should I add my page to the homepage movie?

First of all, consider your cost-benefit ratio. With only a few clicks you make your page part of a really astonishing web project. An image of your page is taken and links to your web site are added to the movie. The associated presence implies that your page is shown to millions of users who will eventually click on the links, come and visit your site. And you get all that for only a few (and even one single) euros. Particularly consider how many (actually: how few) clicks you would get for the same money in pay-per-click marketing programs!

Moreover, you should add your page as I think the homepage movie will succeed. See also the subsequent question for a few reasons why I believe in the project. With a high number of referring users also the number of visitors will grow continuously, and I intend to do marketing for the movie even after the last slot has been given away. I am thinking about making it some sort of real DVD, extending it by a pay-per-click marketing campaign, adding it to public movie databases, etc.

Note also that it is particularly interesting to be among the first pages on the homepage movie, as they are shown more often. This is due to the fact that the homepage movie is shown in rotation and lasts shorter as long as only few pages have been registered.

What makes this project different?

Instead of so many other similar projects, I want to make it possible for anyone to participate in the homepage movie project. Therefore, the minimum amount that has to be spent to become a part of the movie is only one single euro.

Second, this project is by far bigger than all the other projects that has been started yet. Instead of targeting at one million dollars I intend to make several, up to 100 millions. This will definitively help to attract even more attention than previous projects had.

Another major difference of this project is that it provides anyone with the opportunity to participate. If visitors of the movie believe in the idea and always wanted to become part of such a thing, they have the possibility to spend their time telling people all over the internet about this project. In return, the people who make the highest number of referrals will get a great share of the money made with this movie. As I again want to make it possible for anyone to participate, it is neither necessary to buy a movie slot nor to register in order to start doing marketing.

Note that the page registration and the affiliate program support each other. When pages are registered it becomes more attractive for affiliates to do marketing for the movie. The other way round, as soon as more people start spreading this project out on the web, more visitors will see the movie and movie slots will become more and more attractive.

Can I participate?

Yes you can! If you have any kind of web presence (such as a homepage, a blog, an online photo album, a company web site, etc.) you can register your page for a small participation fee. If you prefer to make money you can become my affiliate by simply telling your friends about the movie project: If you are eager enough to be among the top referrers I will reward your efforts with a share in the overall movie value!

Which pages may I register?

As mentioned before you can register any kind of web presence you have: This might be your blog, your photo albums, your personal or company web site for example. You might register each URL only once, but there is no limit on the overall number of pages you add. Please note, however, that you have no influence on the position of your pages on the movie: So if you want a long lasting movie presence please consider purchasing a larger movie slot.

You should only add a URL if you have the right to do so. Technically speaking, it is important that no copyrights are violated by your submission. Therefore, I discourage from the registration of foreign domains/web sites as their owners might be against its presence on the homepage movie (even though I personally can think of no reason why they should be). In that case I might be forced to remove respective sites from the movie. Moreover, no pages which show offensive, harmful-to-minors, extremist or racist contents, or violate the rights of any third parties in obvious ways will be accepted.

How long will my page be visible?

Once registered, your page will be visible whenever playback reaches the position of your movie slot. The number of times this happens depends on the number of registered pages and the lengths of the purchased slots. Your page will be visible for (at least) the number of seconds you have purchased.

The movie is intended to be shown as long as this is possible. It will be online for at least three years. If the project succeeds and all the slots are given away, I will definitively keep this site up as long as this is possible in terms of the available technology. In that cas the homepage movie can definitively be considered a piece of web history which deserves its place in the world wide web.

Can I update my homepage image?

No, deliberate updates of the page images are not possible. This is due to the fact that the movie is intended to take a snapshot of the web as it looks in 2008, rather than representing an ever-changing catalogue of page images. If, however, a large number of registrants prefers the possibility of regular updates, I will definitively also take this option into consideration. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me regarding this issue.

The image of my homepage is shown wrong. What can I do?

Please check the image of your page as soon as you get my confirmation e-mail. If something went wrong in the creation of the image (due to technical problems on my or on your site, for example) do not hesitate to write me a message. Please provide me with the respective URL and a brief description of what is wrong and how it should be. An attached image of how the page snapshot should look like would be great! Thanks for your support.

What will all the money be used for?

Well, first of all a big portion of the money goes out to all the participants in the movie project. A few friends of mine who supported the development of the idea and this site will be rewarded as well as the top referrers that participated in my affiliate program. Another part goes away for organisational matters, the technical infrastructure and taxes. All the remaining money will be for me.

As regards my personal intentions for that money, I mainly want to reach two things: First, I want to buy a nice flat in NYC, where I intend to spend some of the next years. Second, I want to have enough money to start all the other fancy web projects I already think about day and night: These projects require some initial investments which are only possible with the support of the internet community - who will definitively benefit from my plans to make the web a better place. I will keep you posted on my ideas!

Who are you?

My name is Jay, I am a student currently living in Vienna, Austria. I have spent the last few years writing my thesis, participating in several astonishing web projects and working with various companies on commercial internet/intranet solutions. I am particularly interested in the web as well as new web technologies and want to participate in the ongoing process of making the world wide web more interactive and more intuitive for everyone. I consider myself creative and full of ideas, which is why I also want to earn a living from creativity. We'll see how it works :-)
